Q and A forum

If you are a regular reader of the newsletter that we send out to school administrators you will know that a popular feature of this is our Q&A forum. Administrators email us with questions relating to their work and every couple of weeks we gather these together, post these on the newsletter and ask readers to send us in solutions/ answers based on their experience. Replies are summarised on this website here.

Because of the volume of questions that we receive we now post about six every couple of weeks via the newsletter and publish the rest on this page below.   1. I need to know if there is another company (apart from Link) who sell lockers.  We would like to go direct to the supplier but can find just the one - and for value for money purposes we need to obtain quotes from two others.

  2. Any chance you know of any websites that have any schemes of work focused
    around the transition from the primary setting into a secondary setting. (I work in a school for children with ESBD and the learners in the past have found it really difficult to settle into their new environment.)

  3. At our school we do not have a post box, so we are now being told we need to use the post office 'keep safe' and they will then deliver our letters when we are back in school, the cost £28 for each holiday!!!  If we don't subscribe to this then our post will be returned to sender (oh so tempting, to get my own back on all those unwanted fliers).  The cost is astronomical and I am wondering if anyone else has found an alternative solution or are you just paying up!!

  4. Does anyone use the company Unicom? They offer cheaper telephone calls and line rental. They sound quite good but you have to sign for a 3 year contract.

  5. We are a large Independent Primary School looking at getting a new Management Information System. We have looked at various demonstrations but I would appreciate any feedback on which systems work very well for both teachers and support staff as well as those that don't.

  6. We are considering buying photo ID badges for staff (the sort in a plastic or laminated carrier that is on a lanyard to wear around your neck).  We have had a quote from one company, but they work out at £6 each.  Can anyone recommend a good quality product that is cheaper?  Or possibly supplies to buy in where you can then produce them from the computer?

  7. Could I ask where people generally buy their exercise books from? I need a
    specific book which has been withdrawn by our current supplier and don't
    know where to go now! It is 200x100mm 12mm ruling with a blue cover.

  8. Do any schools have appraisals for admin staff and if so could you help with some guidance please.  Admin staff here do not have appraisals at the moment and I'd like to implement it.

  9. We are a small independent prep school (approx 300 children) and are currently looking at buying into a schools information management system.  Could I ask your readers if they have experience of a managements system and if so can they recommend one.  We are currently looking at WCBS's PASS system.

  10. We installed water coolers last year when we were applying for Healthy Schools status.  They have been nothing but trouble with pupils spraying water all over the floor and themselves.  I just wondered if anyone new of a good source of supply of water coolers or some other system suitable for schools to allow pupils to fill their own water bottles during the day.

  11. Could anyone advise me if they have sourced a good company for supplying
    an automatic car park barrier please?
